The Beginning of NSTA

I am off on a long trip. I am headed to Philadelphia for not one but two conferences. The first is NSTA (National Science Teacher Association). My school is in the works to become a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math school. STEM for short. The other conference is National Association of Research in Science Teaching or NARST. I am a presenter at this conference. A CSU professor and I wrote a paper together and we were invited to present some of our findings. We are also presenting a new study that we are working on called Symbolic interaction-ism and scientific communication in elementary school science. I am excited to be going and learning as much as possible.

Composting

This last summer we had a garden. It turned out to be a very fruitful garden. We had pounds of tomatoes, peppers, and zucchini. We also had about 15 pounds of potatoes. Next year we are going to try our hand at canning. We are excited for the next spring when we can start again.

Having a garden leaves a lot of greens. Living on a quarter of an acre we naturally have a lot of grass clippings, and leaves. We had a box in the back yard that we used for compost but there is just too much stuff. So, this weekend I built something a little bigger. I am excited to get some waste in there and get it going.

Lava Monster

I am sure you have played a rendition of “lava monster”. Well, the game has become a little complicated at our house. There are now different levels and magic items that can help you along. This is a picture of Weston wearing his “magic helmet” it slows the monster down, a “bracelet” that can freeze time, a pair of magic boots so you can walk on the lava, and last a key to make the rescue. I love that kid!

So, I was putting Emmie to bed and Jenni was doing the dishes. Weston went down stairs to wait for us because he wanted to play trains before bed… This is how I found him. I love that little guy.

VW Bus

I was talking to Jenni tonight and I told her that I would like to buy a VW Bus sometime. I asked if she would drive it and she said sure, that way I can sit in the back and play D&D with my brothers. I was all for it. So maybe someday I will but VW bus….

Actually, I just bought a bike and I have been riding to work for a couple of weeks now. No room to play D&D. Bummer.

Alice in Wonderland

For those that don’t know I love the story Alice in wonderland. Jenni bought me an old 1920 copy of the story. I own several versions of the story and I am excited for Tim burton’s version. I truley hope that it will not be a disappointment like Charlie and the Chocolate factory was. it does look interesting. It is by Disney. Maybe they will make a cool ride at Disneyland out of it.

Dyson

Ok, the other day Jenni and I went to a place called JAX. It is a store much like REI. While we were there the kids had to use the bathroom. I washed my hands and went to dry my hands and saw the Dyson Airblade. I have never been to a place that actually had one. It was awesome!! My hands were dry. 400 mph of air! I highly recommend using it!
